After 102 years, the doors to Walter Reed Army Medical Center have closed. This hospital has seen wounded from every major conflict since the industrial age changed the machines of war. It has treated hundreds of thousands of soldiers, families, senators, congressmen and presidents. Those halls have seen joy, pain and honor.
Most recently, Walter Reed Army Medical Center has provided exceptional care to soldiers that were wounded in the Middle East conflicts. Combining state-of-the-art surgical technologies and training, leading to almost magical recovery’s, Walter Reed has served its country proud. Despite struggles housing so many wounded, Walter Reed rose to the challenge and exceeded all expectations.
As the facility closes, its halls are bare and the sound of silence is almost deafening. It is truly a ghost town. The halls whisper tales that should never be forgotten. The pain, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and sense of loss that has been felt in this hospital by so many will always live inside the walls. The wounded that entered on a gurney and walked out on their own power are a testament to the hospital and the strength of America’s Heroes!
Walter Reed moved to the Bethesda Naval Medical Center campus. It is now called the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda. It is now a joint services hospital.
Today we are asking for your help. With “Warrior Cry’s“ expansion, we have more opportunities to supply wounded active duty troops musical gear and lessons. One of our greatest joys is handing out the instruments and seeing (for many of them) their first smile in months!
A number of you have said to us ‘how can I be involved’? Well it’s simple. We are asking you to consider making a monthly (or perhaps quarterly) commitment to Warrior Cry. I can tell you that your commitment will make a big impact on our outreach. If you cannot give, please do not feel pressured, just use these letters as a reminder to pray for us and the wounded we work with.
I have been working with a great group of wounded recently and some of them have been caught up in the horrors of government red tape. They have said many times “They can’t believe all of the sessions with therapists and work they have done, was nothing compared to the therapy of playing music.” It is an honor to work with them and their families. They are the reason I left my job to do this as a volunteer. When the wives cry from seeing their husbands really smile for the first time since their injuries, they then understand the power of music.
Please take a moment to donate $20.00, $50.00 or as much as you can so that we can continue our mission and let these brave men and women know they are NOT in this fight alone. Our needs are ongoing and increase almost daily, so please put us on your monthly calendar to remind you to donate monthly. We can’t turn our backs on our Heroe’s! Help us help YOUR Wounded Warriors. Please keep them and Warrior Cry in your thoughts and prayers
We thank you in advance for helping out “Warrior Cry” and our mission of Healing Through Music. You can give by check, credit card, direct deposit, or even through our website. Together we will change more lives than we (you or us) could have even done on our own!!
Thank you for letting us share with you and we are pleased you are our ‘friends.’ We think Jesus said it best, “I no longer call you servants, I call you friends”.
